Dr Shafer and Dr Campbell were specially trained to measure brain function in clinical settings for deficits caused by concussions. Unlike other diseases treated by sports physicians, some of the diseases treated by the specialists can be identified as sports - related problems already by their name. Sports medicine is ideal for those who want to get active and start a physical activity program, as well as weekend fighters who occasionally suffer injuries. Sports medicine is a specialty - trained medical experts who can treat athletes, whether the patient is a weekend warrior or not. We focus on injuries related to sports, exercise and daily activities, such as knee, hip, ankle, back, shoulder and back injuries.

We encourage parents and coaches to educate their athletes about the severity of concussions so they can be informed, evaluated and treated appropriately about symptoms. We encourage doctors to work with athletes during the recovery process so that athletes can avoid more serious and more permanent problems while still being able to participate in their sport. As rehabilitation for sports-related injuries is often required, our sports physicians work closely with patients to ensure they receive the comprehensive medical care needed to return to full health and resume their sport. But we also see people who consider themselves non-athletes but have experienced problems or injuries that are outside the field of sports medicine.
